Hearing and Doing

Ja 1:22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

I know there are areas in my life where I am hearer and not a doer, but I am often blind to them. I need the Holy Spirit to reveal them to me. Often times He uses other people to point out these areas in my life. One such area is worry.

I can dress worry up in spiritual clothing. I say I am concerned about something, when in fact I am worrying about something. Even when it is legitimate concern (and not worry), it can be difficult trusting God with it.

Peter tells us we are to “Give all our worries and cares to God for he cares about what happens to us.”  Jesus told us to “not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

This is just one example of how I need to be a doer of the word and not merely a hearer.  What does God’s word reveal to you about yourself when you look into it? Will you take action or walk away in forgetfulness.

May God bless you richly as you seek to obey the Word that you read and hear.

Thank You!!

I am really enjoying the series and will continue to study The Book of James more often. So much conviction in this small book. Thank you again for challenging us in this area of our lives.
